Compound Word Jeopardy

This week we learned about compound words or should I say reviewed them. When I taught kindergarten, I introduced them to compound words in the 2nd semester. So for my 2nd graders, this was a breeze. After a quick review using a circle map to review and define compound words....

We decided to play Compound Word Jeopardy and not only did this address our standards, it was fun too! I divided teams by gender and the students buzzed in using Quizzillion controllers....

Check out Compound Word Jeopardy...

I made my own Button! Thanks to Oikology!

Grab my button on the left. I worked very hard to create this button. Don't get nervous when I say it took an hour from start to finish to complete! I have been to many sites but Oikology 101 was the best and the steps were easy. I believe it would have taken half the time if I actually read it thoroughly. Once I did, it was complete! Grab my button and tell someone about GNT!
All thanks to.....

GNT APP OF THE WEEK

THe Showme App is a great interactive whiteboard tool that I use in my classroom daily. It allows you to write and record your voice at the same time. When I am in small groups, I can just play my Showme video and get students started while I get the others situated in centers or independent work. I write the morning message twice a week using this app. It allows me to write down and record what I want them to do for morning work. I could even add a picture and ask them to give me 10 adjectives to describe it using this application. The best part about this app is that I can stand at the door and greet students and just hit play on my IPAD. Once you have completed your Showme presentations, you can convert them into videos, send them in an email, grab an embeded code to add to your own blog like I have in this post, or add to your Showme Library. I hope you like it. Tell me what you think!

Click here to get more information of the App.

Here's a Showme I made just minutes ago..it's only 3 minutes long..enjoy!

Long I, Oh my! Search and Record Long I Form

I would like to thank Laura Davis and my Second Grade Teachers bloggers for inspiring me to create my own documents. This document was created for my word study group so that they can record all the words that have the long I features from magazines. Today my students were excited to use a sort sheet and record words on the form. I love creating my own documents! It is time consuming, but I am happy that whatever I create meets the needs of my students. If you would like a free copy of my recording sheet click here! I am going to be making documents and posting cool technology ideas all week. I am also looking forward to Starting App of the Week. Please stay tune and enjoy your free sheet.

Dear IPad, You Rock!

I absolutely love utilizing my IPad in the  classroom. I recently purchased a VGA connector from Target and  it is available in many stores. After watching my professor bring her IPad to life on the projector screen, I was hooked. It was simple to connect my projector to my IPad. Watch the Video below for  instructions on how to setup it up. Today in class I used an App called Show Me. I was able to record my morning message and write it at the same time. When students came in I was able to greet them at the dooor and others were able to listen and read  my message for the day without  me even leaving my post. Students laughed at the sound of my voice but they responded positively and begin to follow instructions as stated in the recording. Tomorrow we will sort words from ICard Sort and Word Connex. All Apps are available in ITUNES in the App Store.

Send a Message with style with Eyejot.com

Yesterday I was so excited about attending my first class of the semester. I didn't understand why I feeling this way because I have been a college student a whopping 10 years! But when I arrived to class, I knew why. I was in a Technology class for Elementary Teachers and the first day was amazing. My teacher made us take pictures via the webcam on our laptops(I used my IPad2) so that she could have our pictures to add to her attendance app. I got so excited. After learning about all of these wonderful things, we begin to talk about assignments. Our first assignment was to complete a survey on Surveymonkey.com and then send a video message to the teacher to introduce ourselves. If you notice on the first column on my blog I have an EyeJot video message. You can make your own video messages in a matter of minutes! Click here to get started! If you don't want to create one and just want more information click on What's EyeJot? to get information about the site! Imagine the possibilities in your classroom. Express what you want to say in your own live message. Leave all the typing behind!
